The Political Editor for the APC NewsOnline, Mr. Victor Oluwasegun, has lost his sister, Mrs.Yewande Lawal (Nee Sotuminu).
Yewande, popularly known and called Wendy, died following complications after an operation at the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH) in Sagamu, Ogun State.
She was 49 years old, and an Assistant Director in the Ministry of Youths and Social Development, Lagos State, at the time of her death.
Yewande was born in December 8, 1971 to the family of the Sotuminus in Sagamu, Ogun State. She attended Home Science Association School in Ikoyi Lagos, and thereafter, Federal Government Girls College, Sagamu.
She proceeded to Uthman Dan Fodio University in Sokoto where she obtained a Bachelor of Arts in English.
Her National Youth Service was done in the Governor’s Media Office in Enugu State. Yewande then started her career in Social Work with the Lagos State Government in the Ministry of Youth and Social Development.
Because of her zeal for the welfare and wellbeing of the youth and her creative input into her work/career, she quickly rose to the rank of an assistant Director.
She was 9 months shy of her 50th birthday before she was snatched by the cruel hands of fate and this shining star dimmed forever.
She died on Wednesday, March 31, 2021 and was buried of Friday 2nd April, after a commendation service at Reigning Christ Chapel, OOUTH, Sagamu. She was interred at Anglican Church Cemetery, Sagamu-Ikenne Road.
Yewande Lawal was a jovial, loving person who had a boisterous happy-go-lucky personality. Spreading joy and happiness energised her and she would stop at nothing to put a smile on people’s faces.
She was a tough-minded optimist, counsellor, evangelist and go-to person, whose love for God was never in doubt. She left behind her beloved husband, children, family and colleagues.
