The Kaduna police have rescued eight travellers abducted in Galidamawa, Kidandan, Giwa LGA of the state.
Muhammad Jalige, spokesman of the state’s police command, confirmed this in a statement on Tuesday.
He said they were rescued after police operatives intercepted some bandits during a routine patrol on Monday.
“On sighting the operatives they took to their heels abandoning their victims and one AK-49 rifle and in the process, eight victims were rescued unhurt,” Jalinge said.
Jalinge said the victims said they were abducted on Zaria–Kaduna expressway while aboard a bus en route to Delta in February. He said the victims are currently receiving medical attention ahead of a reunion with their families.
Listing an AK-49 rifle among items recovered from the abductors, Jalinge noted that the police command has organised a manhunt to apprehend and bring the bandits to book.
“The Commissioner of Police in Kaduna, Umar Muri, appreciates the support rendered by the Inspector-General of Police in deploying men and resources to complement the efforts of the command in tackling banditry,’’ he added.
