Ijaw leader, Chief Edwin Clark was among the first to be vaccinated by the Federal Capital Territory
Health care Board.
The FCT commenced its own vaccination exercise on Monday with the Minister of the Capital Territory, Mohammed Bello and Minister of State, Dr. Ramatu Tijjani Aliyu.
The 93 years old, former National Commissioner urged Nigerians to go out and get the vaccination for their own protection and safety.
Dr. Iwot Ndeaeyo Akpan, Acting Executive Secretary Primary Healthcare Board led the medical team to his No.48, Haile Salaise Asokoro residence.
Speaking shortly after recieiving the AstraZeneca jab alongside members of his household, the Ijaw leader urged Nigerian to take the issue of safety very seriousely.
Clark who also narrated how 24 people including himself contracted the virus last year.
Clark said he had denied his cousin who came all the way from Delta to access to his (Clark ) residence on because of the way the people from his state where handling the Covid-19 protocol.
His visitor who he accommodated in a guest house eventually tested positive for the virus and later another member of his household tested positive. This, he said led to him carrying out test which returned positive and after been administered home treatment, he recovered after
14 days.
While commending the government and Presidential Taskforce on Covid-19, Chief Clark charged Nigerians on the need to be on the same page with the government to be able to overvome the pandemic.
He stressed that as a country, we do have a problem like every other countries in the world, but if we are able to put our heads together we would be able to solve any problem.
In his earlier remarks, Dr Akpan said there has never been any case of side effect to warrant stoppage of the administration of Covid-19 vaccines in Nigeria.
Besides, he said FCT has set up fi special team that will attend to the aged at their different homes.
He said no fewer than 1670 people have so far been vaccinated as the FCT administration is to cover one million residents in 2021.
He explained that the plan is 40% coverage this year and 70% by 2022 soley supported by government.
The vaccines, he also said will be available for people of 18 years and above.
“People of 60 years above will be vaccinated at home by special team,” he stressed.
