The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama has charged the Ambassadors-Designate that they are servants to Nigerians in countries they are accredited to .
Onyeama stated this on Friday during the presentation of letter of credence to 25 of the 99 cleared Ambassadors-Designate .
In his opening remarks, the minister urged the ambassadors to treat every Nigerian with respect and affections.
“You are servants of Nigerians in those countries to provide them with every assistance. Remember to treat them with respect and affections. Literally and figuratively, you are ambassadors. How other countries see Nigerians will determine how you relate with people in those countries you will be credited.”
Stressing the importance of growing the country’s economy, the minister adviced the Ambassadors-Designate to market Nigeria in order to improve trade relations between Nigeria and their credited countries.
He said “we rely on you to discover and open markets. Bring in foreign investments. Develop people to people relationship.Promote Nigeria as a tourist center.”
He assured the Ambassadors-Designate that the ministry will always be available to provide them with support even though it might not be enough.
The presentation was done by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama; deputy governor of Kano state, Nasiru Gawuna and the representative of the Minister of Police Affairs.
