SERAP slams FG over abduction of students in Niger

Releated Post

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has slammed Nigerian authorities over the abduction of students and staff of Government Science College in Kangara, Rafi Local Government Area of Niger State.

The students and staff were abducted by bandits who invaded the school in the early hours of Wednesday.

SERAP, in a statement issued on Wednesday, said the incident suggests that the Nigerian authorities are failing to live up to their commitments to provide a safe learning environment.

The rights group said it will hold the government to account if the students are not urgently rescued.

The statement said, “Nigerian authorities must locate and ensure the safe release of many students and teachers reportedly abducted by armed men who attacked the Government Science College Kagara, Niger State. We’ll hold @NigeriaGov to account if the students are not urgently rescued.

“The abductors must be arrested and brought to justice. Victims must be granted access to justice.”

Meanwhile President Muhammadu Buhari has dispatched security operatives to Niger State to ensure the rescue of the abductees.
