No fewer than three hundred members of Gombe State Council of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners on Wednesday barricaded the main entrance of the Gombe State Government House causing vehicular traffic in the area.
According to Mohammed Abubakar, state chairman of the council, in a chat with newsmen, the pensioners are protesting non-payment of their pensions running into months.
“Other grievances by the pensioners is that more than 700 local government retirees have not been enrolled into the monthly pension after over two years of retirement among many others,” Abubakar said.
However, security personnel at the gate of the Government House were seen struggling to maintain law and order as the peaceful protesters insisted on seeing the Governor.
As at the time of filing this report, the council have proceeded on a meeting with the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Ibrahim Njodi, in the absence of the Governor who is reportedly out of the state.
