A prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and former member of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Hon. Friday Sani Thursday defected to the All Progressive Congress (APC) along with his supporters from Igalamela Odolu Local Government area of the state.
Sani, a known antagonist of Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State stormed the National Secretariat of the APC in Abuja with some of the decampees and told newsmen that he has since reconciled with the governor for the good of the party in the state.
The former lawmaker who attributed the reconcilation with Gov Bello to the Chairman Caretaker/Extra-Ordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) of the party, Gov. Mai Mala Buni said, “my Governor and I are now on the same page politically”.
“Owing to the prevailing circumstances and the situation on ground, politically today as a politician you will always choose options that are available for you as a politician to be able to chart your course and that’s the cause of your people, the only option now in the circumstance I have found myself is All progressive Congress and I have decided to join it.
“I was still the member of the PDP up till two hours ago (4:30pm) when the membership card of the PDP was actually thorne and I actually change my party to the APC and I didn’t do this alone, I did this in full consultation of my people.
“I have a very large followership and the discussion for my decamping that took place today started two to three weeks ago and ever since then I was consulting with my people and today history is made as I decided to change my political party to the All Progressives Congress.
“My reasons are very obvious. I’m a believer of all people, I’m a believer of developments, I am a believer of safety of my people and that is why I have been able to check the variables and the options that are available politically right now and I decided that the best option for me in the circumstance that I found myself and to be able to stand for my people is the All Progressive Congress.
The two time lawmaker in Kogi State also said he would support the governor fully should he decide to vie for the country’s top position come 2023.
“Let me put it on record that as far as I’m concerned and those who believe in me, the ambition of Governor Yahaya Bello for President is totally endorsed by me and why did I say this? His Excellency Governor Yahaya Bello has created history in our state, this is the first time a Kogite built up the courage to say I want to become the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria with this history I have no alternative than to go with him after all I don’t have an Igala man who has the same ambition. So if a kogi man will become President why?”
