…one feared dead
At least one person was feared dead and many others injured on Tuesday during a clash between the police and members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria popularly known as Shiites.
The incident was said to have taken place at the Maitama area of the Federal Capital Territory near the National Human Rights Commission.
During the protest, the police were said to have fired shots and teargas canisters to disperse the Shiites and in the process, one of them was hit by a bullet.
Smokes of the canisters billowed the air while the sounds of gunshots rented the air.
The President, Academic Forum of IMN, Abdullahi Mohammed, told the media said that many people were injured during the incident.
According to him, IMN would soon be releasing a statement on the incident.
Efforts to get the police to respond were unsuccessful.
